How to take the Path of least resistance

Here's a tool I use in my 1:1 coaching clients -- and something I use myself constantly in daily life.

The concept is: The Path of Least Resistance

This concept comes from Abraham Hicks (one of my spiritual mentors) - and it ultimately means - follow the path that is easiest.

Here's an example of how I shared this concept with a client of mine.

He's a Financial Advisor, and I were talking about ways to improve his prospecting. Currently, he gets about 90% of his referrals from in person meetings.

He's in my signature program, The Financial Advisor Academy -- and inside the program, I share a lot of different strategies on how to get more leads -- examples: email marketing, LinkedIn, Feeds Lists, Nesting at companies, etc.

While we were talking, he mentioned that this last month he was pretty burnt out, got very few referrals/leads, and was feeling super stressed going into next month.

Sound familiar?

He started rattling off things he wanted to do -- try LInkedIn, learn how to make better feeds lists, create a more robust prospecting process...

Then he overwhelmed. He started getting really flustered with the amount of things there were "to do" in his business.

And he was feeling paralyzed by this idea that he had to do SO MUCH to do to "fix" his prospecting.

I had him pause - take a deep breath - and then I walked him through the Path of Least Resistance exercise.

My recommendation: Instead of revamping your entire process right this minute, the question is this: What can we do that is the easiest to do, and will cause the MOST impact?

The Path of Least Resistance for him was:

  • To overcome the anxiety / fear of not having any referrals
  • Get back to prospecting in meetings (it's working - don't stop doing it!)
  • Once he started getting referrals again, after 2-3 weeks, then look into putting together really, really great Feeds Lists (a new process for him)
  • Get really good at building feeds lists -- start getting 25% more referrals in meetings - THEN, once accomplished, expand into a new strategy (like LinkedIn)

Growth business -- unlike how I thought it would be -- is more about "micro-pivots" than it is about revamping my whole process.

It's about making small tweaks that make things progressively easier (path of least resistance) vs. trying to tackle something HUGE, getting overwhelmed, then not making any progress at all.
